History of the STW Legacy Network
On December 12, 2005, the day before Nobel Peace Prize nominee and children’s book author Stanley Tookie Williams was executed by the State of California, Stan spent his remaining few hours planning the long-term impact of his work.Barbara Becnel, Stan's friend, advocate and co-author for 13 years, was present in the San Quentin death row visiting room with him during the last day of his life.
He talked with Barbara about his work, and requested that his efforts be continued.
He asked Barbara to involve as many people and collaborators as possible in implementing his street peace and social justice projects, including the wide distribution of his anti-gang books, the promotion of his Tookie Protocol for Peace in the poorest communities in this nation and elsewhere, as well as implementing his and other strategies for reforming America's criminal justice system so that it does not continue to discriminate based on race and class.
The STW Legacy Network is a global effort to advance the final requests of Stanley Tookie Williams, which have the potential to create peace in neighborhoods and townships throughout the world.
